Browse tall bearded irises by time of flowering/Sfogliare le iris barbati alti per tempo di fioritura
If you are planning a planting scheme it is useful to know which irises are likely to flower together and which can provide a succession to one another. The precise timing of flowering will vary slightly, year on year, depending on conditions.
In general, the dwarf irises flower first (from early to late April), followed by the intermediate and border irises (from late April to early May) and then the miniature tall bearded irises. The dwarf irises will generally have finished flowering before the tall bearded irises start flowering, whereas the intermediate and border irises will overlap with the earlier of the tall bearded irises. The miniature tall bearded irises prolong that overlap, flowering through to the middle of the flowering season for their tall bearded cousins. Tall bearded irises cover a span from the beginning of May through to early June, with the peak of flowering usually around mid-May.
You can browse dwarf, intermediate and miniature tall bearded irises in the “browse by height” section of this website, here.
Below, you can select tall bearded irises according to whether they flower towards the beginning, middle or end of the season for tall bearded irises or have an unusually long flowering season.
Some bearded irises are capable of a second flowering in summer or autumn, or in some cases, repeated sporadic reblooming into the winter months. You can browse these in the Rebloomers section.
